This Boot Was Made for Walking…

November 24, 2008

I’ve gotten a boot upgrade. Last Monday I had my mid-way check-up with my podiatrist to see how my stress fracture was healing. While the x-ray looked ok, I still have pain while walking. The doctor decided that I needed more stability, stating that I should have experienced a noticeable decrease in pain already. He wrote me a prescription for a walking air cast.

I feel like with it on, I can fight crime. It makes me feel robo-cop-ish from my left shin down. As I walk, acorns crush under the rolling plastic and I feel invincible against all nuts and crunchy items that occupy the floor. As I strap it on each morning and pump up the four air chambers I tell myself my (probably only amusing to me) story that this is a limited edition, classified Air Jordan Nike shoe. It’s so limited I could only get one. So secret it has no marks on it. Screw pumping up your shoe with just your shoe tongue. I’ve got a pump, valves and four gizmos to attend to. It’s awesome. Or something. I’m just trying to stay positive.
I’ve got two more weeks in this boot. Hopefully be then I’ll be pain free and able to walk on my merry way. That’s all I’ll be doing for a while: walking. My goal of running a 5k will have to be put on hold till I lose more weight. After two fractures I need to be really, really, really careful.

Besides my new hardware, there isn’t much else to report. After my 3.5 lb loss I got cocky? Stupid? Self-sabotaging? Fell prey to that time of the month and grad school finals stress? While I wasn’t hungry (thanks phendimetraz) the behavior of eating for comfort is still there. And I succumbed. I don’t want to whine or complain or lament too much on my week off track. Instead I’m just going to pick myself up, dust myself off, and try to do better this week.

Now I just have to figure out how I’m going to rock my air cast like Rihanna through the holiday party season.

oh baby!! add some tinsel, a few red xmas tree balls and you’ll be the highlight of the season!!

so i thought of you last week. I was doing the jillian michael’s 30 day shred and she mentioned during a move that if you have any kind of lower body injury this is the move for you.

get into a squat position, not too low though. So, not a full squat. Tighten your abs and then start punching. Arms out across the chest in sharp, fast jabs. Inhale on one punch exhale on the other. Do it as long as you can, stand, release, shake it out, do it again.

    :) enjoy;)

Krista- Where can I get the t-shirt? :-)

Lisa- So going to try that when I get home. It might scare my office mates if I went all Bruce Lee on them in the middle of the day! Are you liking the 30 Day Shred? I want to try her new Wii game.

Hahaha, you had ME wanting one of those super duper special edition Nike pumps! lol You are absolutely adorable.

I find one thing that has helped lately with staying on track is truly looking at short term periods to stay on track. (i.e. until Nike takes back their limited edition boot for example) That way you can get through little bits of time rather than feeling bad about the “long” journey ahead. You were so great to map out your chart that projects your timeline that I bet at the same time it can sort of feel “sucky” that you have to wait until then to get to your goal. Now while your doctor gave you your prescription, he did say it was only for a specific period of time, so maybe it might help to look at that as a short time time period in which you can tell yourself to “hang in there” and keep your nutrition in check. Right now, I keep thinking about the end of our BLBE challenge as my smaller time period. I keep telling myself, “if i can just keep this up until then…”

I am still laughing at your cute description of your boot! lol

I think I was the first to have one of those super stylish boots after I broke my foot walking down my driveway (just call me Grace). Anyway, hope you have a speedy recovery and the boot works its magic.

Man I’m not sure I can rock like her without a cast! Let’s see maybe you can decorate it for the holidays?
