My “Me” Weekend

Me blissed out (not high, thankyouverymuch!).

Me blissed out (not high, thankyouverymuch!).

This weekend I spend sleeping in and cuddling with Sarcasman, getting my body moving again, consuming some of my favorite magazines, getting things done around the house that desperately needed to be done to re-claim my sanity, and getting all dolled up and attending a Christmas party. It was a fabulous weekend and left me feeling accomplished and blissed out.

Friday I went to yin yoga for the first time in about 4 weeks and it was fabulous. Lying there, trying to “center” myself and “push my thoughts away like clouds, concentrating on the present”, I started making a mental list of why I loved yin yoga:

  • It’s one of the few things in my life I can’t “hack”. There are no shortcuts in yin yoga. You hold every pose 5 minutes. I can’t do it more efficiently. In a world where I’m constantly evaluating things and asking “how can I do this just as effectively, just quicker?” this is my one exception. It’s fabulous.
  • Yoga makes you so acutely aware of your body. Many times I like to numb myself to my physical presence. When you hold a stretch for an extended period of time, using your weight to sink into it, you feel ligaments you were never aware of. You become ultra-aware of how you are holding yourself and what you are doing with your body.
  • You utilize your weight as a resource. As you position yourself for a pose your mass pulls you back down to the earth, deepening your stretch and increasing your flexibility over time. This utilization of body mass as a tool is an interesting concept for me.

It was a fabulous way to start out my “me” weekend. I went home Friday, ate dinner with Sarcasman, and vegged out for a bit on the couch catching up on my DVR and surfing the internet. After another failed blogger posting attempt, I decided to migrate my blog over to WordPress. I spent way too long debating on layouts, trying to transfer all my widgets, transferring over my RSS feed, and just doing set up stuff overall. I’m still not completely satisfied (why can’t I get my exercise calendar to post in WordPress?? why!??!) and am frustrated my RSS feed transfer ended up sending all subscribers my past 10 post again (and costing me 7 subscribers! Argh!) but overall I think the transition will be good for me. I constantly had formatting issues in Blogger and had issues finding a template I liked. I’m sure it’ll take much tweaking before I’m completely satisfied with my new internetz home but with determination (and the help of my internet guru friend Christopher Schmitt) I think that WordPress and I will have a happy, fulfilling relationship in the end.

Saturday Special Olympics had our first basketball practice. It was so exciting! We had so many athletes show up that we will have three different teams this year: a full court team, half court team, and skills team. Even more exciting, we had 6 girls show up! My goal this season is to retain them; supposedly in past basketball seasons they ended up being outnumbered and felt unwelcomed and quit leaving an all guys team. Most the girls will be on my team, the skills team, so I’m going to really make an effort to make them feel welcome and wanted this season.

After practice I went on a long walk with my dog, (thebestdogintheworld) Scooby. On my walk I reflected on my “me” questions I came up with in my last post: What are my goals for the future and what have I learned thus far? What’s worked? What hasn’t? What self-doubts and fears are holding me back? What permanent lifestyle changes that will be necessary for me to achieve mind/body/spirit bliss (or at least some resemblance of peace)?

And the answers to those questions, you ask? They are long! As in 3 pages long! And will be in my next post! Stay tuned…
