Things I Love: Honeybee Tea (WIN IT!)

tea1Product: Honeybee Tea

Website: http://www.thesimpleleaf.com/

Description: Honeybee is produced in tiny quantities by our dear friend Madan Tamang at his family’s Meghma Tea Estate. At 7,000 feet, it is one of the highest, and most remote, tea growing areas in the world! This gorgeous hand-crafted, oolong tea is made using traditional Taiwanese methods adapted for use in Nepal. After plucking, the leaves are hand rolled, covered with cloth and spread out on a table to dry. When infused, the tea exudes the aroma of native Daphne bholua and Rhododendron plants, with a slight touch of honey and fruit. Honeybee is one of our most popular favorites, and is perfect any time of day. Enjoy hot or iced.

Be sure to check out The Simple Lead’s exclusive Behind The Cup interview with the producer of this tea. It’s a remarkable story of one man’s passion for oolong tea and for the slowly disappearing Rhododendron forests in his beloved Nepal.

My Review: This is a completely biased review. I purchased Honeybee Tea from The Simple Leaf on a whim when I was going through my Diet Coke detox. One sip and I feel in love.

This is by far one of my favorite drinks. I’ve written about it continually here at Choosing Losing. And here. And here. And here. I use my Mr. Coffee Iced Tea Maker to keep my refrigerator stocked with 3 quarts of Honeybee liquid goodness at all times. It’s become my go to drink.

It’s a mild tea with honey and fruit flavor. It’s delicious and light and refreshing. I prefer it cold, but it’s fabulous hot and cold. I tend to mix stevia sweetener in with it but, it’s so mild and has a slight sweetness, no sweetener is necessary.

What Others Are Saying: While my review is “it’s good!” some smarter, tea aficionados are able to word their reviews more eloquently and are much more useful. The Simple Leaf allows customers to review the teas online and Honeybee Tea has 49 reviews and a 4.86 rating out of 5!

honeybee1Here are what some of the smarter, more experienced tea drinkers have to say:

  • Lovely! Intoxicating aroma! Delicately fruity with hints of honey and pepper! A cold weather comfort!” – Shean
  • beautiful tea! The leaves greet you with an outstanding smell and when infused it is really out of this world.” – Toni
  • “I’ve been drinking Honeybee every day since I received my simple leaf order. I never knew what an oolong was, and this is a lovely way to find out. Thank you. The tea reminds me of hill stations in India, lovely aromas, and perfect to sip on a cool day.” – Prakash
  • I bought Honeybee along with the Iced Tea Infuser Jug (Ceylon) and gave the cold infused iced tea recipe a try. The results were delicious. Thanks very much for the very fast shipping and for the free samples I received along with my order. I’ll definitely be coming back.” – Ashleigh

Will I Continue Using: Yes. Yesyesyesyesyesyesyes!!!

In addition to the great quality of tea, the customer service is superb. Fast shipping, quick to answer any questions, and every so often generous free samples are included in your order.

The Viva sounds yummy, but then I’ve never met a green tea I didn’t like.

I would go for Dawn. Not because it is my name, but it sounds like it would go well with some cream and sugar. But then again so does American Breakfast, and a few others.

Mmmm I love tea. I go through about a pot a day. My favorite is white tea (“African Solstice” in particular) so I’d be interested in trying their decadence tea but this honeybee tea also looks delicious! Not sure I’ve ever had oolong tea but any tea is good in my books :)

I love many varieties of teas and I have tried the flowering teas which are quite good, but no particular stands out. Of these teas, I think that the Honeybee would be one for me as well, but I would try any of them.
